Our Health & Safety procedures and risk assesments are educated from the UK Health & Safety executive and guided by the BBC’s safety standards and guidelines for best practices.
For each UK motor racing circuit we will have a risk assesment to view and download, in addition to these general assesments, while we are present on site, the senior team member will also carry out a dynamic risk assesment.
Here, you will find a comprehensive list of our current risk assesments for all the UK race circuits.

Environment
Race circuits are primarily used for competitions involving moving vehicles. Risks are almost exclusively vehicle related be it movement or associated maintenance equipment.
General Risk assessment – Race Circuits
Crush by load – Medium Risk
Around the pit and garage area attention must be made to the loading and unloading of vehicles and equipment.
Entanglement in Machinery – Medium Risk
In the garage area race cars are serviced and maintained by various items of machinery
Impact/collision (driving) – High Risk
There is constant vehicular movement special attention in the pit lane, assembly and garage areas. Trackside filming positions are in the safest place possible however full attention must be maintained while a race is going on. be aware of escape routes and direction from officials
Slippery Surface – Low Risk
Wet weather and leakage of fluids can render garage and pit areas slippery underfoot.
Trip Hazard – Low Risk
General awareness of circuit infrastructure. Around the pit and garage area where there is a prevalence of maintenance equipment
Electric Shock – Low Risk
Race circuit mains electrical supply has to be maintained to the highest standard. Any equipment connected must have an in date PAT certificate
Fire – Low Risk
Fire precautions at race circuit are comprehensive. extra vigilance around the pit and garage area where refuelling may be taking place
Hazardous Substances – Low Risk
In the garage and pit area fuels, oils and hydraulic fluids are in use. Apart from the occasional spillage these will be in regulated containers
Noise – Medium Risk
During race meetings there will be significant vehicular noise, although each meeting does have a proscribed noise limit which is strictly adhered to. Ear protection will be provided if required.
Personal Protection
All weather protection
Most filming at race circuits is outside and not under cover.
Protective clothing should be worn at all times that is commensurate with the prevailing conditions. In hot weather consideration should be given to wearing a hat and sun screen
You may be required to wear an identifying tabard or jacket by the race organisers this is to be worn at all times.
Direction and positioning
You will be allocated a filming spot in keeping with the circuit safety policy. Additionally you may be required to adjust or relocate if required to by a circuit official or marshal. You must remain in your allocated position
No filming point should interfere or restrict the normal operations of circuit crew or marshals.
Track side conduct
All personnel working track side are required to adhere to the same basic rules as marshals:-
1 No leaning on the Armco or tyre wall during a race.
2 Face the race track during a race at all times even if the race is not being filmed and be aware of escape routes.
3 Remain standing during the race at all times
4 No eating or drinking during a race
Specific Risks and safety considerations Brands Hatch
Access to the circuit
Brands hatch has two public entrances, usual access is through the main gate if the event requires you to access through the paddock entrance signage will be places on the adjacent roads to guide you.
Track Access
There is good track access via a perimeter road to most of the indy circuit. The filming point at druids requires a short walk from the adjacent car park.
The GP Circuit has limited vehicular access filming points can be reached on foot from the Druids car park
Signing on
Signing on is usually based in the media centre on the first floor of the administrative building above the pit garages. Access to the centre of the track is by either the pedestrian tunnel or the vehicle tunnel from the outer paddock
Special risks
Brands Hatch Indy circuit filming points are predominantly Low Risk but a couple of camera filming points around the GP Circuit represent a Medium Risk. Special attention should be taken at Druids corner where care must be taken to avoid the red zone and as the filming point is close to the marshals post also ensure that you are not obstructing or interfering with their operations
Specific Risks and safety considerations Cadwell Park
Access to the circuit
Cadwell Park has a single public entrance
Track Access
There is good track access via a perimeter road to most of the filming points. The infield point at Hall Bends is accessed on foot via the pedestrian crossing point adjacent to the holding area. The filming point between Hairpin and Barn is also accessed on foot via the service road at Hairpin
Signing on
Signing on is usually based in circuit office. Cadwell Park does not have a dedicated media centre.
Special risks
Cadwell Park filming points are predominantly Low Risk. Special attention should be given to the woodlands camera position where the ground may be slippary under foot.
Specific Risks and safety considerations Donington Park
Access to the circuit
Donington Park has a single public entrance
Track Access
There is good track access via a perimeter road to all of the filming points on the National circuit. The filming points on the GP Circuit are accessed on foot from the main paddock
Signing on
Signing on is usually based in the media centre on the first floor of the administrative building above the pit garages.
Special risks
Donington Park filming points are predominantly Low Risk. Special attention should be taken at Red Gate corner where care must be taken to avoid the red zone.
Specific Risks and safety considerations Oulton Park
Access to the circuit
Oulton Park has two public entrances. The primary entrance gives access to the paddock and pit lane area. The secondary entrance is at Knicker Brook this gives access to the filming points at Knicker Brook and Shell Corner
Track Access
Most filming points are accessed on foot. Oulton Park has a number of purpose built filming towers. The filming tower at Old Hall Corner is accessed by crossing the track from the pit lane. The filming point at fosters is via the access road. The Deer Leap filming tower can be accessed on foot from the paddock area over the pedestrian foot bridge. Druids filming tower is accessed on foot through the woodland walk from the car park and then crossing the track. Shell Corner is accessed on foot from the car park reached via the Knicker Brook circuit entrance.
Signing on
Signing on is usually based in media centre which is on the second floor of the race control building.
Special risks
Oulton Park filming points are all Low Risk. Special attention should be given to the points that require access by crossing the track. Sufficient time should be allowed to cross while the track is not being used and always under instruction from the race marshals.
Specific Risks and safety considerations Snetterton
Access to the circuit
Snetterton has a single public entrance.
Track Access
There is good track access via a perimeter road to most of the circuit. Access to the filming point adjacent to Williams usually requires a gate to be opened by the circuit security. Access to the Riches filming point is via a gate from the car park on the outside of Senna Straight.
Signing on
Signing on is usually based in the circuit office this is in the administrative building at the far end of the pit garages
Special risks
Snetterton filming points are predominantly low risk. Special attention should be taken at Riches corner where care must be taken to avoid the red zone as this has been extended to the corner of the Armco. The filming location at Murrays is adjacent to the marshalling point and care should be taken not to interfere with marshal access or movement
